This week’s severe storms and flooding are at least hammering away at Missouri’s long-running drought.
The latest drought monitor map released Thursday shows that nearly 70% of Missouri is no longer experiencing any drought conditions at all. Last week, just over 56% of Missouri had no drought conditions, but two weeks ago nearly three-fourths of the state was undergoing some form of drought. Southeastern Missouri remains the driest part of the state, with a large area experiencing moderate drought conditions.
Meanwhile, high water remains a problem in several parts of the Show-Me State. A flood warning remains in effect for the Missouri River from east of Jefferson City to the Mississippi River, and is also in effect for the Missouri at Boonville, Waverly, Miami. The Mississippi River is still under a flood warning from Jefferson County to south of Cape Girardeau. Several state highways in rural areas of Missouri are closed due to flooding.
