A Butler man is in custody following a violent domestic incident on Father’s Day that prompted a tactical response from the Bates County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, deputies were dispatched to a home on Northeast County Road 10003 in Butler for a report of a domestic disturbance involving a barricaded subject with firearms. Additional command staff and tactical team members were called in to assist.
According to the victim, her husband, identified as Jeremy D. Borland, allegedly choked her and threatened her with a firearm. She was able to escape the home with the couple’s four children—ages 5, 8, 14, and 16—and sought help from a nearby neighbor.
Borland, reportedly intoxicated, had barricaded himself in a detached shop on the property where multiple firearms were stored. When deputies arrived, they found him in the driveway with his father, who had convinced him to exit the building. Borland was detained without incident for officer safety.
During their investigation, deputies learned that Borland allegedly assaulted the victim during an argument and threatened the lives of both her and the children. The victim had managed to disarm him of a loaded 9mm pistol before fleeing. She sustained visible injuries to her neck, and the weapon was recovered and taken into evidence.
Borland was arrested and transported to the Bates County Detention Center. He has been formally charged with:
-
Felony Domestic Assault
-
Felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Additional charges for Child Endangerment are expected to be filed by the Bates County Prosecutor’s Office. Bond was set at $25,000 cash only, and Borland remains in custody.
