Widespread Storms Affect Clinton, West Central MO

storm-073023-5-rotated498037

Severe storms swept through the West Central Missouri region late on  Sunday, July 30th, leaving behind significant damage and causing as many as 6,000 in Henry County to lose electricity. Henry County Emergency Management reports that as of Monday, July 31st, nearly 950 outages still remained. Evergy reported online that more than 80,000 of their customers lost power in the greater Kansas City area overnight.

Strong winds, reportedly up to 61 mph, left damage to trees, awnings, and signs throughout Clinton and surrounding areas. Multiple streets inside Clinton completely blocked by downed limbs, and many more were partially blocked. The attached images for this article show just a small portion of damages faced by many. As of Monday morning, however, no injuries from the storm have been reported, thankfully.

The City of  Clinton Compost Site at the Wastewater Treatment Plant is accepting brush drop-off of limbs no greater than 4 inches in diameter. Due to increased need from damage associated with this storm, the facility will extend its hours of operation this week to Monday-Friday, 7AM – 7PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 8AM – 2PM. Before moving or removing storm debris such as tree limbs, please note the location of power lines. Take care to stay at least 35 feet downed power lines and trees in contact with such.

We at Radford Media are grateful that no injuries have been reported and give our sympathies to those in our community who have experienced damages and power outages. If you have more images of storm damage from Clinton and our surrounding communities that you would like to share with us, please submit them to news@radfordmediagroup.com with a brief description and location of the damage. Thank you and stay safe.
