From 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Saturday June 10, 2023, “The Train Guy”, Mike Offineer, will discuss “The Katy Railroad: History & Heritage” at the historic 1870 MKT Depot on Highway 52, Appleton City, MO.  He will present historical aspects of railroading and share railroad photographs and artifacts, like old lanterns, timetables and how to tie hoop orders.  After 41 years, Mike retired as an MK&T and then Union Pacific locomotive engineer.  Rick Kraus will also be present with two tracks of model railroads. The displays open at 1:00 p.m.

Fischer Track has started laying the rubber surface at the ACHS track.  The community is asked to stay off the track for 30 days. AC Field of Pride & Track are thankful for the AC Athletic Boosters, Inc. for spearheading this project, working to gather donations, fundraise, and coordinate all of the work. They have worked hard to ensure the school district has not had to pay for the track project. ACHS has not hosted a track meet in over 25 years

AC Pool is open to the public Sunday-Saturday noon-5:00 p.m. General family admission costs: Ages 11+ $3.00, Ages 4-10 $2.00, Ages 0-3 FREE with a paid adult. Season Pool Pass cost: $60 for 1 person, $20 for each additional person. Passes can be purchased at the pool or you can pay by credit card at City Hall. Pool party costs are 1 hour for $90 or 2 hours for $150. Start times for parties are 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. Swim lessons are scheduled for July 10-14. Beginner class will be 5:00-5:45 p.m. Your child must be able to touch the bottom of the pool without assistance (3ft)

Intermediate class will be 6:00-6:45 p.m. The Lion’s Club of Rockville has again made a donation to help lower the cost of classes, $15 for 1 child and $10 for each additional child in family. You can sign up for lessons by calling or stopping by the pool during regular hours or by contacting them through Facebook. They thank Mr. Tommy Payton and the members of the Rockville Lion’s Club for providing another year of swim lessons.

The monthly Men’s Fellowship Breakfast at the Appleton City Church of God will be 7:00 a.m. Saturday June 10.  All the men of the community are invited to join them for a time of great food and fellowship.   Bob Fenwick will have a short devotional.  

The St. Clair Co Historical Society invites you to their next program, “Return to Vietnam” by Omar Hadsall, 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8 at the St. Clair Co Museum, 660 Main St. in Osceola. There will be refreshments and door prizes.  For more info, contact Barry Jenisch at 308-379-2865.

Stellar VBS will be hosted at First Baptist Church of AC June 20-23. Stellar is for kids 5 years old through those that have completed 4th grade. They will start with a meal at 5:30 and conclude at 8:30 p.m. each evening. Family members and friends can join in daily at 8:15 p.m. as they wrap up their day. They also invite families to church on Sunday, June 25 for the finale and a meal following services. Golden Apples Over 50 Social Club will meet 5:00 p.m. at the Park Building Thursday, June 8 for a fried fish dinner. Members are asked to bring sides.  There is no charge for your meal or bingo, as they are operating on grants and donations.  If you have questions, call Anita at 660-492-0170 or Patty at 660-207-9026.

There will be no Second Saturday event for June. They hope to see everybody July 8, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

There will be no Knights of Columbus pancake and sausage breakfast in June.

LEAP (Lewis Equine Assisted Programs) will have a barn dance, chicken dinner and silent auction fundraiser 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Lowry City Community Center, 406 W. 4th St in Lowry City on June 24.  Music will be provided by Campfire Cowboy, Randy Polson.  Adult tickets are $12, Children 5-12 are $8.  All proceeds will benefit Lewis Equine Assisted Programs.  For tickets or more information, contact Kim at 816-506-6825.

Free private tennis lessons are offered to anyone at the tennis courts at Donnohue-Dugan Park.  Rackets and balls will be provided.  To set up appointments for your private lessons or if you have questions, call Dennis Dunham at 476-2151 or 476-5514 or Tommy Payton at 816-863-6624. Open tennis is every day 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tennis is exercise that is fun!

Appleton City Rural Health Clinic will offer free sports physicals in the clinic Wednesday, June 7, Wednesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 21.  Physicals are by appointment only from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Call the clinic at 660-476-2121 to make your appointment.  

Sign up now for the Summer Reading program. Every Monday in July, the AC Public Library will hold two summer reading groups. Kids 10 and under will be welcome at 11:00 a.m., while those 10 and up can come at 2:00 p.m. that same day for a little more in-depth learning. Parents and guardians can sign up any time during normal business hours between now and June 20, or call the Library at (660) 476-5513 for more information.

The 19th Annual Appleton City Car Show will be July 8 in the City Park, right off 52 Hwy across the street from Zink Motor Company. Check in 8:00 a.m.-noon.  Car Show noon-3:00 p.m. This is a judged event. There is a $10 entry fee, with proceeds going to two $1000 scholarships for local high school students. Top 70 cars and trucks combined, top 3 motorcycles, and top 3 rat rods.
