The City of Sedalia is proud to support the opening of our first Milk Depot in partnership with the Pettis County Health Center and The Milk Bank. A grand opening celebration will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Pettis County Health Center, 911 E. 16th Street, during World Breastfeeding Week, a global campaign that promotes awareness and support for breastfeeding.
To recognize this important milestone, Mayor Andrew Dawson will issue a formal proclamation on behalf of the City of Sedalia.
“As a community, we are always looking for ways to improve health outcomes and support families,” said Mayor Dawson. “The opening of this Milk Depot not only highlights the dedication of Pettis County Health Center staff but also places Sedalia at the heart of a life-saving initiative that extends across Missouri.”
The new Sedalia Milk Depot, The Milk Bank’s 19th in Missouri and the first in Pettis County, provides a local drop-off site for approved donors to contribute frozen breast milk. Donated milk is transported to The Milk Bank, where it is analyzed, pasteurized, and distributed to Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) statewide to help nourish medically fragile infants.
“This is a major step forward for the health and well-being of babies who depend on donor milk while in the NICU,” said Malinda Nevils, Administrator at Pettis County Health Center. “Our staff, including Lindsey Curry and Debbie Anderson, took the initiative to bring this program here, and the entire team supports this mission wholeheartedly.”
Milk donations can be dropped off at the Pettis County Health Center:
Monday–Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
To become an approved milk donor, call (317) 536-1670 or visit www.themilkbank.org/donate-milk.
In addition, the City of Sedalia has partnered with the Sedalia Optimist Club to support families through a baby item donation drive. A white clothesbasket is located in the Municipal Building lobby (200 S. Osage) as a collection site for new baby care essentials, including:
Diapers, wipes, diaper cream, and diaper bags
Bibs, baby clothes, towels, washcloths, and baby laundry soap
Baby soap, lotion, bathtubs, and baby-proofing items
Spoons, bowls, sippy cups, thermometers, medicine dispensers, nasal bulbs, and monitors
All donated items will benefit local families and complement the community’s support for infant health. For more details on the August 5 celebration, visit: www.themilkbank.org/events
