
The Appleton City community has a busy calendar of events and opportunities this summer and into the fall, offering something for everyone—from blood drives and Bible school to music-filled dinners and historical exhibits.
Life-Saving Blood Drive Scheduled
The Community Blood Center (CBC), the primary blood provider for more than 70 hospitals in the Kansas City region, will host a blood drive Friday, July 25, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Ellett Memorial Hospital, 610 N. Ohio Street. Appointments can be made at savealifenow.org/group using Group Code: EG2B. Walk-in donors are also welcome. Vacation Bible School at AC Christian Church
AC Christian Church will host its Vacation Bible School July 28-30 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. The theme is “God’s Backyard Bible Camp,” and children of all ages are invited to attend.
Depot Taco Salad Fundraiser
The Appleton City Museum invites the public to the historic MKT Railroad Depot on Wednesday, August 6, for a taco salad lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For $10, guests will receive salad, drinks, and homemade cake. Proceeds go toward the maintenance of local historic sites.
Growing in Grace Events
The Growing in Grace Community Center will host a community dinner and concert on August 2 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. featuring fried chicken, homemade sides, and performances by Freedom Tabernacle Church and James Damon. On August 16, the center will host a Kids’ Fun Day with food, games, slushies, cotton candy, and balloon twisting at 4:00 p.m. Both events are donation-based.
Fall City-Wide Garage Sale Set for October
Appleton City’s Fall City-Wide Garage Sale will be held October 3-4. Details about permit requirements will be released closer to the date.
EMH Community Block Party Returns
Ellett Memorial Hospital will host its Community Block Party on Saturday, September 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Vendors interested in participating can contact Kim Raybourn at 660-476-5236.
Appleton City Carousel Welcomes Visitors
The Appleton City Carousel remains open Friday through Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. until Labor Day weekend. Connecticut was recently added to the Visitors Map, bringing the total states visited to 35. Visitors from unrepresented states or countries can arrange a special visit by calling Linda Lampkin at 660-492-0131.
Museum Showcases New Exhibits
The Appleton City Museum is open Friday afternoons from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. through September 26. New exhibits include a stained glass window from the original First Baptist Church and a mirror from Motts Food Locker in Rockville. Private tours may be arranged by calling Susan at 660-464-0288.
MU Extension Survey
The University of Missouri Extension is conducting a statewide needs assessment to better understand community priorities. Residents can contribute by taking a 10-minute confidential survey at muext.us/statesurvey.
Support the Tony Reynolds Memorial Scholarship
The Appleton City Ministerial Alliance encourages community members to donate to the Tony Reynolds Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 award for local students pursuing further education. Donations can be made at ACMA events or by contacting area ministers.
Specialist Services at EMH
Ellett Memorial Hospital continues to provide outpatient specialist services through August, including orthopedics, dermatology, neurology, GI procedures, OB/GYN, podiatry, ophthalmology, and rheumatology. To make an appointment, call 660-476-2111.
