
The Appleton City High School Alumni Reunion is Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 11:30 in the new high school commons area. Walk-in cost is $20. The class of 1975 will receive their 50 year pin. Come join in recalling old memories (good or bad)!
Appleton City VFW Post 11242 will place flags on veteran’s graves Thursday, May 22, at 2:00 p.m. Any help will be greatly appreciated, as they now have over 530 veteran’s graves in the cemetery. Memorial Day honors by VFW Post 11242 will start Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Cemetery, west of Appleton City. On Memorial Day, ceremonies will start at 8:00 a.m. at the Forest Park Memorial and then will proceed to the Appleton City, Rockville, Taberville, and Mt. Zion Cemeteries.
The Annual “Little Ladies Dance” will be held Saturday, May 31 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Appleton City High School Commons Area. Any preschool age to 6th grade Little Ladies from Appleton, Hudson, Montrose, Ballard, Davis and Zion schools are invited to bring their best dancing partner out for a “Night Under the Stars”. Admission (at the door) per couple is $20, with an additional $5 per extra family member.
The AC pool will open on Saturday May 24, 2025. Hours will be 12:00 – 5:00 daily, weather permitting. Pool passes will be available for purchase at City Hall or at the pool on Monday and Wednesday from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m., and Friday from 10:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. General daily admission costs are: ages 11+ $3.00, ages 4-10 $2.00 and ages 0-3 are free with a paid adult. Sundays and Wednesdays are $1.00 for everyone. Season pool pass are $60 for 1 person and $20 for each additional person added. Pool party costs are: 1 hour $90 and 2 hours $150. Adult swim is $2.
The AC Carousel will be open Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends Friday- Sunday 4:00-7:00 p.m. Rules will be posted at acmogov.com.
The Yellow Roses were a beautiful addition to the Appleton City Cemetery as we honored Memorial Day but now it’s time to pick those roses up. Roses will be picked up on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 8:30 a.m.., with a rain date of Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. All individuals, families, clubs or groups are welcome. The 21st Annual Appleton City Car Show will be July 12 in the City Park, right off 52 Hwy across the street from Zink Motor Company. Check in 8:00 a.m.-noon. Car Show noon-3:00 p.m. This is a judged event. There is a $10 entry fee, with proceeds going to two scholarships for local high school students. Top 85 cars and trucks combined, top 3 motorcycles, and top 3 rat rods. There will be food concessions, music, goody bags, live auction, door prizes, 50-50 drawing and dash plaques for all entries. Along with the AC Car Show, Zink Motor Co (across from the Car Show) is hosting the KC Antique Car Club at their dealership. Model A’s and T’s will be on display. This event is free.

The Appleton City Museum will be open for Alumni Weekend on Friday 1:30-4:30 and Saturday 10:00-3:00. Visitors from near and far are invited to stop by. A new exhibit includes the large mirror from Motts Meats, Rockville. The Mott family has donated this beautiful piece of history that hung in the Meat Shop for many years. The mirror was originally in the Harry Welch Barber Shop. A photo of the mirror is in the History of Rockville, Bates County Missouri. Regular hours at the Museum are Friday afternoons 1:30-4:30 until the end of September.
The Golden Apples will meet 5:00 p.m. Thursday May 22 in the Forest Park building for a hamburger, hotdog, and brats cookout meal. Please bring your favorite sides and desserts to go with them. Bingo to follow.
Children are invited to attend Story Hour at the AC Public Library. They meet on Monday mornings at 11:00 a.m. The Library will also be starting the summer reading program the second half of June with the theme “Color Our World”.
In recognition of the ACHS classes with special class reunions this year, the Museum is displaying the Senior Class panels at the Farm House Restaurant. Stop by and see the 55 year class of 1970, 60 year class of 1965, the 65 year class of 1960 and the 70 year class of 1955.The museum does not have any class panels after 1973 and unfortunately cannot display a 50 year class. Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant Program online applications are due 4:00 p.m. June 23, 2025. The priority of this grant program is to return currently vacant, unsafe or under-utilized historic properties into productive use. Properties must be used for commercial and/or community activities only. As part of the grant process, you will be required to outline the planned intended use for the property after the revitalization project has been completed. Priority will be given to projects that are currently on the National Register of Historic Places and that will finalize the preservation, rehabilitation or restoration of the resources during the grant period, which will end August 31, 2027. Local government entities, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and private owners of commercial and/or community properties may apply. Properties must be located in designated downtown and historical districts within Missouri region served by the Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission (Bates, Benton, Cedar, Henry, Hickory, St. Clair and Vernon Counties). The Appleton City Main Street buildings that were approved for the National Register of Historic Places in 2020 are eligible to apply and will be given preference during the selection process. If you own a building along Appleton City Main Street and it was approved, you must act quickly to apply due to the fast approaching deadline. The National Register buildings that can apply are: Fika, John Engeman’s building, Down Dog, City Hall’s two buildings, Fennewald Plumbing, Zink Motor Co.,Niemann’s, Payton Dental, most of West Central’s buildings, A.C. Library, Plaza Theater building, 3 Wishes, Rural Roots, former Blue Inn, Post Office, Summers Pharmacy, Logan Insurance, Vista Business, W.B. Stout buildings, Depot and Durley Hotel. The grant specifies that the buildings must be used for commercial and/or community use and can be used for exterior or interior needs.
MU Extension is partnering with MU Healthcare to provide an opportunity for residents to learn strategies to promote the safety of older adults behind the wheel and reframe their mindset around retiring from driving. “Keep Your Keys” is a one-time 2-hour program dedicated to offering comprehensive insights and practical advice on prioritizing safety and planning for driving retirement on a temporary or permanent basis. Participants will conduct a self-assessment regarding their ability to drive. Participants receive a booklet to keep with resources and information including a transportation plan. Factors that may impact driving: decreased flexibility and strength, decline in vision and/or hearing, cognitive issues and medication interactions. This program is a must-attend for anyone committed to aging well and living life to the fullest. The Ellett Memorial Hospital Foundation was established in 2000 by a local couple to benefit and carry out the purposes of Ellett Memorial Hospital. The Foundation has played a major role in the Hospital’s recent renovation/expansion project. The Foundation is a 501c3 organization and plays an important role in ensuring the future of the Hospital by providing an avenue for individuals, groups and corporations to lend their financial support through tax-deductible contributions. West Central Missouri Community Action Agency (“West Central”) remains committed to delivering vital energy assistance services to families in need through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), despite the recent layoff of all federal LIHEAP staff. While this federal staffing change has caused concern, funding for LIHEAP remains secured through September 30, 2025. West Central is actively monitoring federal developments and preparing for any future changes to ensure continuity of services throughout its nine-county region. LIHEAP is a critical support program helping income-eligible families afford essential heating and cooling services. West Central administers two primary components: Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) – provides emergency utility assistance for households facing disconnection and Energy Assistance (EA) – offers a one-time payment to assist with winter heating costs.
