The City of Sedalia is proud to announce the successful completion of a Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance (TRIM) Grant, generously awarded by the Missouri Department of Conservation. This grant has helped strengthen the City’s ongoing efforts to grow and maintain a vibrant urban forest that benefits residents, wildlife, and the environment alike.
One of the first components of the grant brought tree care education directly to Sedalia homes. In March, residents received a helpful “Tree Care Basics” flyer with their utility bill—offering practical guidance for nurturing trees and contributing to a healthier community landscape. Thanks to the grant’s support, the City initially planned to plant 40 trees at Katy Park and the Sedalia Animal Shelter. But the team exceeded expectations—planting 25 trees at the Animal Shelter, creating a scenic grove along the walking trail, and 40 trees at Katy Park, replacing others lost to storm damage or disease.
The new plantings and resources represent a long-term investment in the future of Sedalia. Improving green spaces enhances the beauty of the city, promotes environmental health, and ensures lasting benefits for residents and visitors alike.
To ensure these new trees thrive in the seasons to come, the grant also funded essential equipment, including watering ‘gator’ bags and two portable water pumps. These tools will be used throughout Sedalia’s public grounds to support tree growth and long-term health.
