A program to help female landowners and operators understand ag leases and ‘what it’s worth’ when it comes to land and agricultural activities is coming soon to Clinton and to Harrisonvilleis coming soon to Clinton and to Harrisonville.

The ‘Farm Management – On My Own’ classes will be held in Clinton on Feb. 18 and Harrisonville on Feb. 25. Both classes will be held from 6-8pm at the respective County Extension Office.

“I will have fresh data from the most recent MU Extension Rental Rates survey and Farmland Values Opinions survey to share,” said Amie Breshears, Benton County MU Extension ag business specialist. “The evening timeframe, instead of daytime, we hope attracts more participants.”

The workshop will help participants understand the basic elements of agricultural resources and other resources that can be leveraged to determine land values and rates for custom work.

Participants will learn:

  • Components and common types of agricultural lease arrangements
  • How to determine the approximate monetary value of leasing ag lands
  • How to determine the approximate value of ag lands
  • How to determine the average rate for a variety of custom work activities (such as land clearing and custom baling)

The ‘On My Own’ series is specifically designed for women who are first-time sole operators of their farm enterprises but is open to everyone.

“These workshops are an opportunity to network and build connections with other participants in similar operating roles,” said Breshears.

The format is informal, conversational and interactive. Attendees will receive a folder full of information, guides and resources that they can take home with them, Breshears said.

All classes are 6-8 p.m.
