Western Missouri’s Whiteman Air Force Base will serve as one of the locations of the new stealth bomber, the B-21 Raider.

It’s been designated as the secondary base, with Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota being the primary home. Missouri U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt is praising the news that Whiteman has been selected as one of the homes of the next generation of stealth bombers.

“It’s the most advanced aircraft in the world, and Missouri will be home, which is great,” Schmitt told Missourinet. “We’ve been home to the B-2 stealth bomber for years, and the B-21 is part of this really important nuclear triad.”

Schmitt said that being the secondary home is not an inferior selection.

“So there’s going to be three places where the B-21 will be located. And so there they made the first announcement in South Dakota, the second announcement in Missouri. I have some inkling where the third one will be, but it’s a big deal,” he said. “So there are always going to be three, and the fact that Missouri is one of the three is very important.”

Whiteman Air Force Base is located just north of Knob Noster, between Kansas City and Sedalia.
