The Miss Missouri Scholarship Competition continued Thursday night on the campus of Missouri Military Academy. Miss Missouri candidates competed in the second round of preliminary competition in their pursuit to represent the state on the Miss America stage.
The delegates were divided into two competition groups: Sigma and Alpha. Members of the Sigma group competed in the evening gown and on-stage question while members of the Alpha group competed in talent. Talent accounts for 20% of the delegates’ overall score.
Members of the Alpha group competed in evening gown and on-stage question. The judges selected Miss Audrain Tabitha Crain as the overall evening gown winner. She will receive a $500 scholarship. Tabitha is the daughter of Tranna Shaughnessy and Terry Appleby of Strafford, Mo. For her look, she chose a strapless velvet evening gown with an ombre train.
The Sigma group competed in the talent portion of the competition. Once again, the judges selected a double winner. Miss Kansas City Ashley Berry received both the rookie talent and overall talent award. She will receive a $250 scholarship, which is given in honor of Miss Missouri 2010 Erika Hebron and a $500 scholarship for the overall talent award. Ashley, who performed a ballet en pointe, is the daughter of Mark and Amy Berry of Clinton, Missouri.
The organization will crown the new Miss Missouri on Saturday night. After being crowned, the new Miss Missouri will immediately begin preparations to compete on the national stage at Miss America. As the winner of the state title, the winner will receive a $14,000 scholarship in addition to a prize package that includes an official crown and walnut crown box, a feature article in LO Profile Magazine, a fur jacket and photo cards from Missouri Trapper’s Association and Fur Arts, Inc., a talent consultation, and a photography package from Devine Studios.
The Miss Missouri Scholarship Competition is one of the largest providers of scholarships to young women in the state. This year, the organization will award $85,000 in scholarships between the Miss and Outstanding Teen programs.
