Clinton High School is proud to announce it has selected Jimmy
Barnes as the head coach of the Girls and Boys Track and Field teams.
Coach Barnes is a proud 2004 graduate of Clinton High School, and is currently an
administrative assistant for Clinton High School as well as the Activities Department.
Jimmy has a long history of coaching middle school and high school track and field athletes. Mr.
Barnes coached five years in Butler where he had dozens of all-state track and field athletes, a
few state champions, and a 5th place team state finish in 2017. For the last two years, Jimmy
was the head coach of the Clinton Middle School track and field team, where a good number of
school records were broken and the girls team received a 4th place finish in Class 3 at the
Missouri Middle School Track and Field Championships. Jimmy has also coached cross country
for 11 years in the Lakeland, Butler and Clinton school districts. Coach Barnes is currently the
head coach for both the high school and middle school cross country teams. During his cross
country coaching tenure, he has coached three state-qualifying teams, dozens of
state-qualifying individuals, and a handful of all-state runners.
Jimmy was a four-sport athlete while a student at Clinton High School, participating in cross
country, track, golf and tennis. During his junior year, the boys cross country team qualified for
the state competition.
“I’m excited to continue the success already built within the Track and Field program, and look
forward to continuing to work with the athletes I have been coaching the last two years as well.
Let’s go Cards,” says Coach Barnes.
“We are very excited to have Coach Jimmy Barnes take the reins of our Track and Field
program,” says Activities Director, Kevin LaFavor. “Jimmy has a lot of experience in track and
field at both the high school and middle school levels. He has most recently served as our
middle school head coach, and has already established a great rapport with our younger
athletes. We are excited to bring in another CSD alum, who has seen our track and field
program have success from the early 2000’s to now. Coach Barnes will do a great job at
continuing to push our athletes to compete at a state level and represent the Clinton community
with pride.”
