Duplex Fire South of Warrensburg: Humans, Pets, Escape Uninjured

Three District stations responded to an overnight duplex fire south of Warrensburg. Personnel were notified of a residential structure and vehicle fire in the 100 block of SW 21 Road just before 11:00 PM Tuesday night. As crews arrived, one unit of the duplex and a vehicle outside of the structure were engulfed in flames. The occupants of the residence escaped uninjured and two family pets were rescued by firefighters from inside of the duplex.
One unit of the duplex was severely damaged and the attached unit received smoke damage. The vehicle was a total loss.
An investigation determined the fire originated outside of the structure near an electrical outlet and extension cord. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
