Ava Potter, a high schooler already taking steps to build a future career in broadcast journalism, was able to connect recently with Clinton native Matt Evans with KMBC 9 television news for a station tour and interview.

Although still a student in high school, preparing to enter her senior year, Ava finds time in her schedule to participate in multiple sports and hold an officer position in the Future Business Leaders of America, and work multiple part-time jobs as a lifeguard and right here at our own Radford Media Group. You can hear her presenting on-air as “Ava P,” Saturday afternoons on 104.9 The Bizz.

Matt Evans, a reporter/anchor for KMBC 9 News in Kansas City, MO, began his own broadcasting career with a part-time job at KDKD radio. He is also an alumnus of Clinton High School and a former student of Ava’s parents, Aaron and Susan Potter. The Potters had this to say of the experience:  “One gift of being a teacher is seeing your former students grow up and become successful. Today we got the experience of seeing Matt Evans and the KMBC 9 news station. Matt took time out of his busy day to show Ava around the station, explain his job and allow us to watch a live TV broadcast. To say this girl is excited for her future career in broadcast journalism is an understatement! Thank you Matt!”

For those of us here at Radford Media Group, we’re all proud to say that our own small community radio station provided the first step in Matt Evans’s successful broadcasting career, and we are all confident that we’ll make similar statements about Ava’s successes in the not-very-distant at all future. Great work so far, Ava, and keep it up–we know you have bright accomplishments ahead of you, just waiting for you to achieve them.
