With ongoing drought conditions in Clinton and the surrounding area, Burn Restrictions are now in effect for the City of Clinton. This Burn Restriction is for all open burning including recreational fire pits. Barbecue grills are still allowed, however, please take extra precautions when grilling.
As of July 6, 2023, the U.S. Drought Monitor has placed most of West Central Missouri in Extreme Drought Conditions. Under the current conditions, natural cover fires will ignite easily and spread rapidly. When grilling, maintain control of hot ember or sparks by keeping the lid of the grill closed as much as possible and operating the grill on a hard surface such as a concrete driveway or concrete patio. When discarding smoking materials, do not discard in grass or other dry vegetation, discard in an appropriate non-combustible container and make sure material are fully extinguished before leaving. Also use extra caution when operating powered equipment that may create heat or sparks such as lawn mowers or chainsaws.
