News sources report that a verdict has been reached in the trial for Ian James McCarthy in the 2017 murder of Clinton Police Officer Gary Michael: guilty.
The trial venue was moved from Henry County to the Independence Annex of the Jackson County Courthouse, with jurors selected from Platte County. The trial began on June 20, 2023. McCarthy faces felony charges of Murder-1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
The next phase of court proceedings begins Tuesday, June 27th, and will determine whether McCarthy will receive the death penalty for these charges.
