To celebrate World Oceans Day, SEA LIFE Kansas City is partnering with the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Stream Team to host a local community river cleanup, and we would love for you to join us!
You are invited to help us share the message of World Oceans Day by removing trash from areas that feed into the Blue River Watershed from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3. Volunteers will meet at Kansas City’s Spring Valley Park, at East 27th Street and Woodland Avenue, to remove trash from a drainage that feeds into the Blue River. It can take as little as one week for trash improperly disposed of in the Blue River to make its way to the Gulf of Mexico!
Our June 3rd cleanup will be included in the SEA LIFE Trust Global Beach Clean taking place at beaches, lakes, and rivers across the world to celebrate World Oceans Day. Unable to make it? Here are 5 World Ocean Day Quick Clean-Up Tips to share!
- Go on a walk around a local lake, pond, or river and clean up any trash you spot along the walk.
- Consider limiting or avoiding using single-use plastics.
- Use a reusable bag and water bottle.
- Volunteer for future local clean-ups with SEA LIFE Kansas City or other local organizations.
- Donate to charities like the SEA LIFE Trust that support ocean conservation efforts.
If you would like to join our World Oceans Day celebration by participating in or sharing about our June 3rd cleanup, please email bridget.snider@
World Oceans Day is celebrated globally on June 8th, 2023, but our clean-up takes place on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023!
